The Associate Dean, Learner Affairs and staff of the Office of Learner Affairs (OLA) are dedicated to supporting MD learners in achieving their full academic and personal potential within Temerty Faculty of Medicine programs. They have expertise in a variety of areas, and access to extensive resources and networks within the University and surrounding communities.
Supports
OLA offers the following supports to MD learners:
- Personal Counsellors provide private, confidential, short-term counselling. They also conduct group sessions on wellness and mindfulness.
- Career Counsellors provide self-assessment, medical specialty exploration, CaRMS application assistance, CV and personal statement critique, and Residency interview practice and support. The Career Counsellors also conduct workshops, presentations, and career panels.
- Learning Strategist provides individual consultation for any student experiencing academic difficulties, who would like to discuss their approach to learning and how it might change across the course of their program; or who would like to build skills in critical reasoning and analysis and to develop a reflective practice to support them both academically and clinically.
- Mentorship Coordinator who provides consultation to learners seeking formal or informal mentorship or guidance on successful mentoring connections. They also administer equity mentorship programs like the iLEAD Mentorship Program (peer to peer) and the Diversity Mentorship Program (faculty to peer), and maintains the Learner Mentorship Database.
