Electives Policy on Private-Pay Clinical Settings

To ensure consistency and integrity in the clinical learning experiences across all four years of the MD Program, this policy outlines the criteria for elective placements in relation to clinics offering private-pay services.

Elective clinical placements at clinics that require or involve private payment from patients for access to care are not appropriate for participation in the MD Program's electives curriculum. This includes:

• Clinics where access is only granted through privately paid memberships.
• Clinics where services typically covered by OHIP are offered solely on a private-pay basis.

Clinics that primarily operate under OHIP billing as their standard model of care are eligible for elective placements, provided:

• Private-pay services offered are infrequent and not the core model of care.
• The student’s learning experience remains predominantly within the scope of OHIP-funded clinical services.
